Environmentally Wise Consumer Choices
The world is on fire, people!

I know you know that and that’s why you’re here. That’s also why I’m here. See, we could get lost in all of the data, and go over the doomsday clock, and all of that really fun stuff that makes for a great afternoon of doom scrolling. But, we’re both here to start making a difference, so let’s get at that.
This blog is all about us men being the greatest we can be by having a positive impact in the world so I hope that you like this post and subscribe so you are always updated on new posts. The first step to actually being more eco-conscious is making it an active part of your life. Let’s do a brief overview of ways you can live a greener life so you know what you’re signing up for (literally and when you sign up to follow this blog, THANK YOU!).
Let your money speak for you

You know there are entire fields of study and multiple variations of jobs that focus on consumer behavior, why? Because that sh!t matters! Corporations, governments, and your mom all want to know what you are spending money on so they can find a way to market to you. They want to know what you value, what drives your decisions, your value perception, etc. You probably had to say yes or no to cookies just getting to this page because they want to know your buying habits. So, use that knowledge to make a positive impact.
Most likely your local supermarket, Walmart, Target, etc. have green options available and guess what? They are expanding because this is working! (It’s like the NA beers, all the sudden there are like 10 options) When you go to the store next try starting with paper goods like (Affiliate Links🙂 Seventh Generation toilet paper and paper towels that are made with recycled paper. It can be a bit pricier and lord knows the last thing we want to do is spend MORE on groceries. But, the more we buy the more production will ramp up and the lower the price will go. At the end of the day, though, we can’t be like the corporations that only think about the dollar.
Learn how to throw things away
This may be one of those things that most will take for granted but in my experience most people that ever come over to my house have no clue where to put what. It isn’t that they’re nervous, it’s that they have never had to sort “trash.” Setting up a system that allows you to separate compost, recyclables, plastic bags, and finally trash will save you a ton of time but also divert literally tons of valuables from the landfill. I go more into detail in my post “”, but essentially knowing what to put where may take some time but will make a dramatic dent on your carbon footprint.
Update your faucets and thermostat

This one is one of those double whammies. While the last piece of advice asked you to spend a little more, this one helps you save over time. Adding an aerator to your kitchen and bathroom sink can save about 30% of water with each use according to the Environmental Protection Agency without sacrificing performance. Saving water and saving on the water bill.

When it comes to the thermostat, install a (Affiliate Links🙂 programmable thermostat and if you already have one, be sure to program it. Did you know that you sleep better in a room around 60-67 degrees Fahrenheit? According to Cleveland Clinic sleeping in this range also has a broad range of benefits including better sleep, increased melatonin production, and regulated REM sleep. Program your thermostat to get cooler at least an hour before you usually go to sleep. Want an added alarm clock? Set your thermostat to begin increasing the temperature 30 minutes before you usually wake up. Go to work for 8 hours a day? Set the thermostat lower for those times as well.
